Jonas - Sweet Dreams Guaranteed - Album Review

jonascover.jpgListening to Jonas’ album, Sweet Dreams Guaranteed, feels like stepping out of the rain of mainstream “soul” music and walking into an obscure, Copenhagen pub. Inside you’ll find live music that’s filled to the brim with good lyrics, funky bass lines, and a mean Wurlitzer piano.

Ironically, there’s nothing obscure about Jonas’ music. The founding member of the band Jonz (Sony Music) has found his niche as a solo artist. He has toured Europe, opening for the multi-ethnic hip-hop group Outlandish, as well as R&B sensation John Legend. His solo album is evidence of his lyrical prowess, seasoned vocals and pure musicianship. It’s no wonder why his album is #12 on the National Danish Airplay Chart and destined to break out into the rest of the world. Read the rest of this entry »

Glowing praise from fellow podcaster - NetInfoWeb.com

Ed, “Thanks” for stopping by my site and helping me to “discover” a new blog I can tell people about and track (hmmm… can you actually claim to have been smart enough to discover something if someone tells you about first? {smile}).

Anyway, your site looks great, love the name (wish I had thought of it for myself AAMOF), and I’m checking out the podcast as I write this… and it sounds GREAT!. Sites like this are exactly the reason my site, NetInfoWeb.com, exists, to find the sites that are talking about and promoting that thing I like to call “sweet soul music” in all of its forms.

I’ll be adding JOURNEYintoSOUL to my blogroll and my SoulSites aggregator page (http://soulsites.netinfoweb.com) later today, as well as featuring the site in my next post about new places I’ve found.

My favorite music movie - Almost Famous - “Uncool” scene w/ Philip Seymour Hoffman

I love this scene because it illustrates better than any other how I feel as an artist, and what makes great art / music.

Lester Bangs: Aw, man. You made friends with them. See, friendship is the booze they feed you. They want you to get drunk on feeling like you belong.
William Miller: Well, it was fun.
Lester Bangs: They make you feel cool. And hey. I met you. You are not cool.
William Miller: I know. Even when I thought I was, I knew I wasn’t.
Lester Bangs: That’s because we’re uncool. And while women will always be a problem for us, most of the great art in the world is about that very same problem. Good-looking people don’t have any spine. Their art never lasts. They get the girls, but we’re smarter.
William Miller: I can really see that now.
Lester Bangs: Yeah, great art is about conflict and pain and guilt and longing and love disguised as sex, and sex disguised as love… and let’s face it, you got a big head start.
William Miller: I’m glad you were home.
Lester Bangs: I’m always home. I’m uncool.
William Miller: Me too!
Lester Bangs: The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what we share with someone else when we’re uncool.
William Miller: I feel better.
Lester Bangs: My advice to you. I know you think those guys are your friends. You wanna be a true friend to them? Be honest, and unmerciful.
